Tools you may need:
Flathead screwdriver or small pry tool
Safety glasses and gloves (recommended)
A helper or support prop (recommended for hoods, trunks, or liftgates)
Open the hood, trunk, or liftgate and secure it with a prop rod or have someone hold it in place.
Never rely on worn lift supports to hold the panel open during installation.
Find the lift supports that need replacement (usually mounted with a ball-and-socket or clip-style end).
Inspect how they are attached before removal.
Using a flathead screwdriver, gently pry open the retaining clip at the end of the lift support.
Once loosened, pull the lift support off the mounting ball stud.
Repeat for both ends.
(Tip: Do not completely remove the clip; just loosen it enough to release the support.)
Line up the new lift support with the mounting points.
Push the socket end directly onto the ball stud until it clicks into place.
Repeat for the opposite end.
(The retaining clip should automatically lock once secured.)
Slowly remove the prop rod or ask your helper to let go.
Open and close the hood, trunk, or liftgate several times to ensure smooth operation.
Replace lift supports in pairs for even lifting power and longer life.
Do not lubricate lift supports—factory-sealed units are maintenance-free.
If you hear popping or notice difficulty opening/closing, recheck the clips and seating.
⚠️ Safety Warning: Lift supports are under high pressure—do not puncture, burn, or attempt to repair. Always replace as a complete unit.
